Athenaeum Boekhandel
A lovely corner in Spui/Central. Gotta love their collection of english fictions, though I think if you speak Dutch, you'll get more diverse range of collection. I love how they arrange the coffee table books on the mezzanine on top floor, the photography books are just fascinating. They have another shop next door specialising in magazines. While you're there, don't forget to cross the street around the corner you will find another bookstore, American Book Club.

Scheltema
Not a big fan of Dam Square area. But Scheltema is a fascinating five storey bookstore, and a great place if you want some peace from the crowd outside. They have a floor dedicated to just second hand books.

Stedelijk museum shop
Great place to look for design/art books, gotta say their collection is overwhelming! At the moment I'm visiting, they're exhibiting The Best Dutch Book Designs. The books displayed on the exhibition are also available to buy at the museum shop. I bought this storybook Schobbejacques en de 7 Geiten by Merlijne Marell, which is beautifully illustrated with gorgeous book spine and binding.

Herenstraat is a lovely street especially under fine sunny weather. While you're there, don't miss this small vintage bookshop. They have truly wonderful secondhand children's book collection, and the shopkeeper (or perhaps owner?) is very informative.

Boekhandel Robert Premsela
Located in Van Baerlestraat, right accross The Stedelijk. They specialise in art/design/photography books. I went there right after Stedelijk, already with books on my hand so at that time I did not shop anymore books. But, their collections are very interesting, for me I'm especially interested in their fine art collections.

The shelves of Bookie Wookie

Boekie Woekie
Me and my husband would've spent at least an hour in this small shop! Too bad we came there at about 5.30, and they're closing at 6. Bookie Wookie has amazing collection of zines and independently published books, which are really obscure sometimes but overall very charming.

Mendo on Berenstraat

Mendo
Also specialising in art books, one of the places to go to if you're interested in collecting art/lifestyle books. The shop interior is wonderfully designed, really works hand in hand with all the books as the main object. Mendo is located just opposite of Bookie Wookie. If I'm not mistaken, they also have another store in London.
